It doesn’t get 'truer' in Lapland than this
To explore this gorgeous, outermost ‘arm’ of Finland is to get immersed in a dramatic landscape full of vast tundra, fells, snow-capped forests, lakes and rivers that freeze over… making for a magical winter wonderland for you to explore and enjoy.
Located deep within the Arctic Circle, this remote region in the country’s northwestern tip is bordered by Sweden and Norway. Not only is Enontekio known for its pristine wilderness, but it is also ideally situated for viewing the Northern Lights
With little light pollution – the air here is believed to be the cleanest in the world – Enontekio is considered a prime viewing spot for the much-sought Aurora Borealis. Seeing the green and blue colours dance across the clear night sky will stay with you forever, if you’re lucky enough to witness one of the seven natural wonders of the world, in one of the places recognised by the governments of Finland, Sweden and Norway as offering the best viewings of the world-famous Northern Lights. Our expert staff can guide you to ensure you have the best chance possible of seeing the magical and mystical Aurora Borealis – to really make your friends back home jealous! Or rather, as green with envy as the lights themselves…
It is also important to the Sami cultural heritage. You’ll get the chance to learn about these traditions, as reindeer herding and duodji (traditional crafts) remain an integral part of life here.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet the abundant reindeer, who you’ll fall in love with, as they’re essentially the VIPs of Lapland. But keep your eyes peeled, as they’re not the only Arctic wildlife in the region – you might even be lucky enough to spy a moose (they’re hard to miss if you do)!
Most of our tours are based in the sparsely populated villages dotted throughout Enontekio – including Hetta, Karesuando and Kilpisjarvi. Our direct charter flights all land at the very small Enontekio Airport, which has only one runway. You’ll be out of there in no time, for an easy and stress-free start to your trip.
Among the attractions in this stunningly beautiful, unspoilt part of Finnish Lapland are the Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park, which is the most popular national park in Finland. And it’s not hard to see why.
The iconic Saana Fell, which is part of the Scandinavian mountains, can also be found in the region, dominating the skyline. With the sweeping views it offers at its summit, it has proved very popular with hikers and explorers and has inspired countless stories. This is a real bucket-list destination if you can fit it in!
Enontekio would be a stunning and truly unforgettable addition to your Lapland holiday, for those who want to make their trip extra special.
