Hurry to Hetta!

On the shores of Lake Ounasjarvi sits the wonderful Finnish village of Hetta. Despite boasting some breathtaking views, it’s the exhilarating winter adventures we offer that tend to be top of the list for those visiting this incredible village.

With spectacular snow-covered fells and forests in every direction, some of our best winter adventures begin on Hetta’s doorstep. Snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are all available, as well as activities like husky mushing, ice fishing and riding in a reindeer-guided sleigh, which is the perfect family activity for Christmas.

Imagine zipping across a frozen lake on a snowmobile, feeling like you’re moving at the speed of light, with blankets of smooth white snow beside you becoming a blur as you glide around exploring. Or getting to feel like Father Christmas himself, travelling by reindeer, who you’ll fall in love with, as they’re essentially the VIPs of Lapland. And perhaps the most popular of the winter adventures, the husky sledding, which is an unforgettable way to take in the stunning surroundings. You’ll love it so mush. All of this is possible here in Hetta, where fun activities and beautiful surroundings are not exclusive to one another. You can have it all!

Nearby Pallas-Yllastunturi National Park adds another facet to the area’s breathtaking wilderness. It seems to stretch out endlessly, enticing exploration! As Finland’s most popular national park, there’s a reason that the locals love it so much. It has to be seen to be believed, and there are some incredible photo opportunities here so you can show friends back home what they missed!

With little light pollution – the air here is believed to be the cleanest in the world – Hetta is considered a prime viewing spot for the Northern Lights. Yes, thanks to its remote location, Hetta is an ideal place to look for the much-sought Aurora Borealis. Seeing the green and blue colours dance across the clear night sky will stay with you forever, if you’re lucky enough to witness one of the seven natural wonders of the world, in one of the places recognised by the governments of Finland, Sweden and Norway as offering the best views of the world-famous Northern Lights. Officially!

It’s also an important area for the indigenous Sami people. The Fell Lapland Visitor Centre has exhibits highlighting their culture and way of life. You’ll be fascinated to learn about the Sami traditions.

An iconic landmark in Hetta is the tall tower of Enontekio Church, which is located near the lake. Blending modern and traditional Finnish architecture, it was built in 1952 to replace an older church destroyed during World War II. Visiting the church is always a highlight and a must if you’re in Hetta.

Hetta would be a stunning and truly unforgettable addition to your Lapland holiday, for those who want to make their trip extra special.
